Sword and Shield (Raspe Epic Mix)

Brookhaven Remixes: Sword and Shield(Raspe Epic Mix)

Crafted from "Opening" and "Battlefield Without Light" by Miki Higashino. Originally featured on the original soundtrack for "Genso Suikoden II".

    Listen:

There once was a mighty Rune, a Great Rune, that was called the Rune of Beginning.  And in time, the Rune of Beginning was rent asunder, into two parts.  And those two parts were called the Black Sword Rune and the Bright Shield Rune.

Now, the Black Sword Rune was expert at offense, and the art of the attack.  It was a powerful weapon, and in all the Universe there was not its equal in the power of its attack.  And in after times the hearts of Men, yearning for power, would be bound inexorably to the power of the Black Sword Rune.

But the other part of the Great Rune of Beginning was the Bright Shield Rune.  And it was expert at defense.  And although a shield may be used as a weapon to strike an opponent (and so can the Bright Shield Rune deal damage if it will), yet it is above all things a protector of life.  The Bright Shield Rune Sword And Shield, Eternally Opposed. Eternally Allied.thus could heal wounds, fortify defenses, and in all things was it opposed to its brother, the Black Sword Rune.

But the tragedy of the Two Runes is that they always end up being borne forth by the best of friends, and because they are destined to such different paths and purposes, the Black Sword and the Bright Shield Runes cause their bearers to end up fighting each other...

Whole armies sometimes get involved in the skirmishes between the Black Sword and the Bright Shield.  And sometimes, things can look really, really grim for those who are caught up in between cosmic forces.  Sometimes, it is easy for us to see that we are a bunch of pawns in a huge, huge, and utterly unfairly biased chess game.

But there is hope.  The very fact that we exist and are able to ponder such questions as social justice demonstrates that we have the ability to do what we would choose to do, if we but choose to do it.  The influences of Sword and Shield do not necessarily rob us of our free will.  Only we can rob us of our free will.  By refusing to use it...

Great heroes are made out of exactly that substance...free will...anyways, this remix is of the Warsaw Symphony Orchestra's work on Genso Suikoden II, one of the single most awesome video games of all time.  Seriously.  Just about infinite replay value.  For me, anyway.

I tried to tell a story of sorts with the way that I rearranged this piece. Can you figure out what that story is?  Enjoy. :)
